Temptations

My computer has been unusable for gaming for almost two weeks now. I can still surf and type, etc., but playing Landmark is difficult and TSW and even Dragon Age are out of the question. And it's my own fault, really.

Meanwhile, people are loving TESO, which I did not like even when my computer was in fine working order (based on a few hours on beta weekends (BTW the UI supplanted my dislike of the subscription as the main reason I decided not to buy the game)). But not having other games to play makes TESO all the more tempting, against my better judgment.

Honestly I feel left out, because it seems all my friends are playing something that I can't. Even though I chose not to play when I did have the option.

  1. As much as I would love to say this is not the case... because I really want it NOT to be the case. More than likely the internet zeitgeist will move on to Wildstar when it launches and TESO will no longer be the hot new thing. I realize this is little consolation when you are the one not playing what everyone else is. You had some very valid and good reasons for why you just didn't enjoy ESO as much as I did. I respect that, and have tried my best not to put the hard sell on you as a result. I just hope when Wildstar launches we will still have a workable group left in ESO because I am really loving it on a level I cannot adequately put into words.

    1. I've thought about that, as well, but I am not sure Wildstar will scratch that itch any better. And like I said, it's as much because I can't play anything as that I am not playing TESO specifically. I am glad folks are having fun, though.

  3. I wasn't even interested enough in TESO to beta it and I can resist the "everyone else is playing" effect but now I have (finally) noticed the considerable visual similarity to Vanguard I slightly regret not at least giving it a spin. No rush, though. It will be there for a good long while I'm sure. I may get round to it one day.

    1. I'll most likely resist the temptation, too (being somewhat frugal).

  4. Guys...ITS SKYRIM. If you have played SKYRIM you have played this game. Seriously....you are not missing much.

    1. But it's Skyrim with FRIENDS! (Plus, I never played Skyrim.)

    2. The only TES game I'd played was TES 3: Morrowind. But then I was in a beta weekend for ESO back in November and it was fun enough that I picked up Skyrim during the December Steam Sale. And enjoyed it enough to put over 300 hours on it from December to about February. Yeah, a lot of binge playing on weekends. . . But anyway, as much as I enjoyed it, I'm preferring ESO to Skyrim by a wide margin.

    3. Glad to hear it, Dude. Are you playing with Belghast and House Stalwart? or do you have your own guild folks you play with?

  5. I hated all those Elder Scrolls games. I like ESO and doubt I'll play Wildstar now because I'm liking ESO so much. I'm not counting on playing it more than 6 months because Destiny will be out.

Don't buy something you didn't. Like I know it's hard because I've bought many games I didn't like because of people living a game. FFXIV and Rift easily come to mind.

    1. That really is good advice. You really think you're going to skip Wildstar though?

    2. Yes. I'm really enjoying the different feel of ESO. Wildstar feels goid only because it feels like WoW which I love. There is so much depth to ESO I feel relaxed playing it. The rush to max is gone because I'm enjoying the little things like crafting and lore. I hardly kill anything. Of course this could change in months, but it's been a long time since I've played an MMO because I like it and not because everybody is playing it. I crafted a whole set of gear and a weapon the other night and it felt like an accomplishment. I've never felt that in another MMO. I'm hooked on it for at least 3 months. That's saying a lot for me.

  6. I'm not at all interested in Wildstar. Destiny will be the next multiplayer game on the horizon for me, and that's not even on the same platform.

Basically, I'm sticking with TESO XD

    1. Yeah, I'm only mildly interested in checking Wildstar out. But Scary has been pretty enthusiastic in the the recent past.

    2. Don't get me wrong, I love Wildstar, but I won't have time for it. I o ly can play 1 MMO and it has nothing to do with payment model. Just life. ESO and Wildstar are equally awesome, but I'm going to invest in ESO now and Wildstar whenever I get time. I will play it at some time.

  7. I liked the one beta I was able to get in. The game seemed like a lot of fun, but it just wasn't something that I wanted to shell out money every month to play. Some people don't have that kind of issue. I just know that if the game doesn't grab me 100 Percent, that spending money on a monthly sub will only result in money going down the drain when I lose interest and eventually I would lose interest I am sure, because I lost interest in playing Skyrim. True, this is Skyrim with friends, but.. I tend to play a good bit of my MMO's solo, thats just the way I play. I don't shun nor avoid friends, but my play style when I am addicted tends to keep me coming back more and more to play so I never seem to be able to hook up with friends and therefore end up playing a lot of the game solo. I did it in WoW, GW2 and other games so for me, being able to play "Skyrim" with friends isn't a huge selling point.

For some people, this is the right scratch for that gaming itch, but for me, it just isn't. I'm not knocking the sub, nor am I knocking the whole "Skyrim wifh friends" vibe, its just not a game for me. I do feel left out when lots and lots of people in my G+ or Twitter feed are playing and I do get the urge to break down just so I can hang out, but to be honest, I hang out with them on G+ and Twitter so playing a game with them that I know eventually I will abandon for the new shiny when it comes along, as I am sure they will do when the time comes, doesn't encourage me to join the band wagon. So, don't feel bad if your not playing with them and don't let peer pressure talk you into playing a game that you know you won't like even if you try. I have done that in the past and blamed others for talking me into it and to be honest, I talked myself into those games because i wanted to be part of the group, the click and thats my fault for not sticking with my first impression and staying away.

    1. I do know that if Scooter had been really enthusiastic, we would probably be playing. Conversely, she often plays things I really love, but that that she merely enjoys; like TSW.

    2. I'm not playing either games. I've seen some footage of both games. I don't think I'm missing anything nor am I feeling any temptation to want to play TESO or Wildstar. Put another way I guess, the Force is weak for me on both games in drawing me in. Pretty much I'm on the sidelines for now till something with a magnetic force actually pulls me in. Only thing on the Horizon is Destiny for which I had preordered a few months ago.

    3. I have only ever a "magnetic force" for games I've actually played. That's not say I haven't anticipated new games, like SWTOR and GW2, but I am far more likely to make a decision to play a game based on some trial or "beta" experience. This has been true from the very of my MMO experience with WoW, through to my current passion, TSW.

I have played the Wildstar open beta this past weekend, TL;DR
I enjoyed it. But I'm still not sure it has drawn me in, the way WoW or Rift did.
