This is a response to an issue my friend +Mario Delgado (aka @tententacles) was having with swapping gear sets in TSW. He would get an error saying he can only have one elite ability on the bar at a time.
I did a little messing around and found nature of the bug. I'm guessing the different builds have the elite abilities in different slots, like this:
Gear manager swaps ability slots from left to right, not all at once, so swapping from that first bar to the second will lead to the error. Swapping the other way is error free.
Solution: Keep your elite abilities in the same slot for different gear sets. I don't know how much that would affect your rotation, but with the different elites in the same slot, I had no errors swapping gear sets, either through the GM interface or using the chat commands. Since the elite is usually on a long cooldown, I have it in slot 7 where it won't be in the way when I'm using hotkeys.
Also, I feel a little behind the times here, but apparently TSW is modable. There are a bunch of addons available through Curse.

Good work around for a bug. Their code should ignore having an elite in their twice if it is removing it in later on in the same action. I'll keep it in mind, although it will probably get fixed by the time that I get around to playing more.
ReplyDeleteEarly after launch, all gear was being moved to the inventory, then back to the gear slots, regardless of whether it was replaced in the "new" gear set. And it didn't always make it back, which meant I had to manually go find it and put it on. I have no idea what would have happened if my inventory were full. It seems to a be a simple script that didn't account for elites not being always in the same spot on the bar.
DeleteWould have been easy to code a removing and Inserting Active and Passive if the devs had specified a slot for Elite Actives and PAssives with their own remove and Insert functions.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. :) I think people like the flexibility of placing the elite abilities wherever they want. A good spot for you, or me, may not be ideal for someone else.
DeleteAfter the error, if you just re-equip that set of gear (through the manager), the Elite should slot normally.
ReplyDeleteOr, you can just download the Build Snapshot Manager, which is a great addon, and all your gear/build equiping woes are over... Also, regarding mods, Valet is great for storing specific sets of clothing and Eth's Buff Bars are pretty much essential if you want to do any NMs.
Yes, loading the same Gear Set again works, too. I think Mario was looking to be able to react in a split second. I just installed Valet earlier, I like it a lot. But I have an issue with any mod/addon being considered "essential." That way is the path of overdependence on them.
DeleteThank you for commenting :)
Well, there are a few encounters that depend on you tracking a debuff on your target (or risk a 1-shot), which is usually lost in all the clutter. What Eth's does is that you can set it so those buffs/debuffs you need to see appear in nice-looking bars with timers etc.
DeleteYou can of course compete without any addons, but it's just much more work to get it done.
Ah, cool. I'll have to look into it. I installed a few Quality-of-Life addons yesterday, liking some of the functionality I've seen so far.
