Just a comparison of the Illuminati stronghold in The Secret World's Brooklyn and the real world neighborhood, as near as I can figure. NOTE: The map for the Secret World is upside-down. Running toward the river is approximately running north, not south, and Manhattan is across the river.
Makes me think that the neighborhoods in Seoul and London are likely based on real places, too.
Wow, awesome! I never thought to check if the city maps are actually based on their real life counterparts, though I suspected they were. Seemed like Funcom went to great lengths in their research to get the look and feel of the settings just right.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to include at least one street level view of each, but my Flash is jacked up for Firefox right now.
DeleteIf you go to street view on Google maps you'll see that they used those views for detail. They did so well in fact that the rail lines on the ground outside the laundry match the street view and the hobble stone changes to asphalt in the actual spot. There is a truck with a portolet in front of the fight club entrance. There is even a matching phone cable drapped along the side of the building where you first enter the lumi HQ
DeleteCool I have to check it out tomorrow
DeleteNot sure if Kingsmouth is a real place or just a compilation of place in New England but it is very authentic looking. I live in Atlantic Canada, next door to New England and see very similar sights when at the shore.
ReplyDeleteTipadaknife was speculating on G+ that Kingsmouth might be based on Salem, MA.
DeleteAttention to detail on the cities, villages, and quaint towns in TSW are one of the most impressive things about the game. I'm not sure I've ever seen better topography and fine detail in a game, ever.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I haven't even gotten stuck anywhere. :P
DeleteWhen I goto Brooklyn, I'll have to be sure to visit Fight Club in the SE corner of the city. :p
ReplyDeleteHehe, just past the nonexistent subway station.
