Inspired by a discussion on Twitter, and Trion's announcement of Rift's impending F2P transition, I just started two quick polls. Please see the questions in the right column (sorry, you'll have to hit the vote button twice). They'll be up till next Tuesday, then I'll discuss results.
If you don't find a category in the list that you feel strongly about, drop a comment. :)
You need a Null option in both polls, I think. Especially the second, in my case. Nothing on that list would discourage me from spending money. I'd either use the cash shop or ignore it. About the only reason I could imagine boycotting a game because of something it sold in the cash shop would be for moral or ethical reasons, meaning the sale of something which, if sold in a physical equivalent in the real world, would be culturally unacceptable or even illegal. Racist material, for example. Other than that, who cares what's in any cash shop if the game is otherwise fun to play? And if the game isn't fun to play, it has problems no cash shop is going to fix.
ReplyDeleteOnce people have voted, Blogger won't let me change the questions. On the plus side, you don't have to vote in both polls. I figured I didn't need a null, since at least in my case, I am very reluctant to buy random loot boxes/keys. But it doesn't stop me from buying other items. Someday, I'll think of every possibility and make the perfect poll. :D
DeleteI also just thought of "Quality of Life" Items, like Bag or Bank space. :\
DeleteAn interesting poll...
ReplyDelete... THE ONLY WAY TO WIN IS TO NOT PLAY.
But seriously, I've "gained" the privilege of a monthly stipend in SWTOR and STO, but it's a privilege that I've paid a very great amount of money for. At least in both I've also purchased peace of mind from inventory restrictions, etc.
I can't say I've regretted yet not getting a lifetime sub to any game. STO was awesome, but I eventually lost the drive to continue, and returning to new systems left me overwhelmed, TBH. I've thought of starting over, but I don't want to part with the Captains and Crews I've got. TSW comes close, but I honestly don't know how long that will last. I don't have a great track record with MMOs since leaving WoW.
DeleteI don't mind what is in the shop but if the shop is intrusive and in my face a lot, I get all stubborn and refuse to buy anything - that's probably not very rational but I find it satisfying. Ha! Take that, Nasty Gamespoiling Shoppe of Annoyingness!

That's very true. The constant announcements in Neverwinter that so-and-so has acquired a Nightmare Steed drive me up the wall. Actually, I've almost completely tuned them out.
DeleteI'm concerned that the votes actually seem to be decreasing. :\
